Because of this, I am now only flying KE between PVG and ICN, which offers through check with DL and offers (much) superior service.
MU (China Eastern) is listed as one of the exception carriers for which DL's stated policy is to through-check bags across separate tickets.

It can take getting an agent who knows how to do the through check to one of these carriers when on separate tickets and it is also recommended to either save the above link or print out a printed copy of the above link to show an agent if they pushback on through checking bags to one of the exception carriers.
