As others have said, you first pass through security to enter the domestic terminal before passing automated passport control and secondary security for the handful of international gates. There is absolutely no point in T3 having a separate international security check point for the sake of the tiny number of international flights operated from the terminal - there are only 2 x daily flights (SIN and LHR) and then a few a week to CDG/FCO.
Domestic security in OZ is like a dream. It's like flying was like in those 1980's movies. You don't even need a boarding pass to go through security at domestic terminals! Yup, want to wave someone off....you can escort them all the way to the gate. Want to meet someone off an incoming flight? Again, you can wait at the gate. There are no liquid restrictions at all, never have been.
And what this is a good thing? It's an airport not a meeting place. No wonder security is busy sometimes and probably with non flying pax. It's a joke in my view.
One large and functional security checkpoint for domestic and international should suffice. The problem in Australia is that they have different terminals at different areas...sometimes miles apart with rubbish connections. That certainly reminds me.of the 80s! A dream? No it's a nightmare. ,🤭
