On an Econo fare?
Plunked into middle seats, in two different rows -- on a single reservation with one adult plus one child? And you can't even select seats at check-in without being hit with two seat selection charges? Wow.
Super disappointing. Honestly this makes me angry. If they want to be honest, they should just rebrand "Econo" as "Basic Plus" or "Basic Flex". Or maybe just plain ol' Basic, since the only worse fare is now 'Ultra' Basic.
There's very minimal info about how to be seated with a child on their web-site. (Between having status and my kiddos being over 14 now, I fortunately haven't had to deal with this for quite some time.)
Here's what they say:
Can I be seated with my child who is less than 14 years of age?
We will make our best effort to seat you with or near your children, for no extra charge.
When you book your flights online you can ensure that you are seated with or near your children who are less than 14 years of age if you:
- Provide the date of birth of all guests who are less than 14 years of age
- Select your seats together when you book your flight
If you don’t see enough seats together on the seat map, we’ll do our best to seat you with or near your child – to be sure, you can
call us to reserve your seats.
During booking, were you given the option to select seats together? Did their web-site want to charge you to do it?
And same at check-in? Were you given an option to choose seats? Did their site try to charge you $$ to move??
And as has been talked about here frequently, directing people to call in to their call center in order to solve a problem (or, in this case, simply to get what you're supposed to get) is somewhat silly ... given that wait times for the regular line are usually hours long, and during IRROPS (like, say, recovering from a strike or a hailstorm -- just to mention the past few weeks) is sometimes impossible or, at best, will require a scheduled callback days later.
