Nonetheless, it’s completely absurd that you would be penalized for trying to help AA avoid a IDB situation, but this is where we are today.
I've never seen that option pop up. And this case, I didn't volunteer at all, since I knew I didn't want to take the option (unless they were going to actually IDB me and pay me at least $2000 - the agent double booked me on the flight first before calling, and then didn't take them off when I refused.

Luckily I was able to get back on my flight through chatting with AA, but still had to find someone to check me in airside at the gate. I lost a confirmed FC upgrade because of that...
Yep, I've lost 2 confirmed upgrades from this as well. 1 I got back, but the other I had to fly in Y- since the FC as well as all the Y+ seats were taken by the time I got off the intl flight.
