I will reposition from HKG to BKK to fly BKK-HKG-LAX with an overnight layover in HKG. I won't have any checked bags at BKK but will have bags to check in at HKG for the second leg. Is this feasible? Has anyone had recent experiences with this?

Also, I’ll likely use the Airport Express. Are the check-in counters at Hong Kong Station accommodating for this kind of situation?
