To be fair, I wouldn't do the LHR-LGW if I had a choice. And I do. Qatar fly direct to Doha from Manchester or Birmingham or indeed from Edinburgh, and thence to BKK.
It's less Avios as well.
The only reason really to use the BA BKK flight is if you can get directly to LGW from your house
