But they're an outlier. Australia, UK and EU (Schengen) all require children unter 12 to use the manual passport desks, and the parnets have to go with them. Sucks but that's the way it is.
None of those places, to my knowledge, have trusted traveler programs though, which would be a more apt comparison.
