I would have thought that an elite HH member would generally benefit from this scenario as they would be the ones to be upgraded. Given the number of times I have booked a base level room and had SOME sort of upgrade (even to deluxe or executive room) it could easily be that the base level had been oversold for that night. We just would not know either way.
