I have no problems flying on AC into or out of ATL ... but as noted above, it's critical to avoid a checked bag. If you're flying with carry-on only, and you know to use the in-terminal train (the "plane train") to get to & from the main terminal - the rest is easy, whether you're getting a rental car, taking the Marta, or anything else.
