This just happened to my spouse last weekend. She volunteered to be bumped and the GA discussed other flight options. In the end they didn't need her, but when she landed in her connecting city, her onward flight disappeared from her itinerary. Luckily, she was able to go to the gate and re-secure her seat on the flight. But, wow, something is clearly not working.
