This is definitely the case, in Italy (and also some other countries in the EU), any sort of accommodation facility has the obligation to register guests ID, this including minors. Data has to be communicated to the national police (now everything is done online) as requirement from a king decree dated 1931 that has been extended and updated several times and fully in effect. Even camping are subject to this regulation.
I do not have a problem giving my personal information, name, address, BD, Passport number & expiry, etc. What I have a problem with is giving a photo of my passport and signature. Are these really required or it this overreaching?
