We were traveling from Gatwick to Cancun on BA2203 on June 28, with a scheduled takeoff at 13:25.
Before leaving home at 08:50, the flight was already delayed by 1 hour 20 minutes. At bag drop, the check-in agent mentioned a further delay until 16:00 or later.
Around 12:00, an aborted takeoff at Gatwick closed the runway for 40-50 minutes. This might have caused our inbound flight (Orlando-LGW, BA2038) to be diverted. The aborted flight was also BA operated, headed to Vancouver.
Ultimately, we arrived in Cancun 6 hours late.
Is this eligible for EU261 compensation?
As a datapoint i thought i'd update on this.
got an email from BA over the weekend. I included a taxi-fare as our bus connection was missed and no alternative when arriving as late as we did. not bad for a 2-4-1 redemption flight.
