We're in the middle of a 3-night stay here. The neighborhood is meh - but that's on me for not doing my research. Downtown LA is nothing to write home about.

We were also upgraded to a Claire Suite, a beautiful space filled with furniture I'd like to have in my own house. Tons of cool art arranged on all of the walls. Heavy duty fixtures. Exactly what I'd expect from a building that used to be a bank. From a design standpoint, zero complaints.

But I do have a few nits to pick. The breakfast amenity here is among the weakest I've ever experienced — they're doing the absolute bare minimum. You're entitled to a pastry and a hot coffee. No lattes, no hot food. And the pastry is either a croissant or an apricot danish that's the size of roughly a half-dollar, which is probably more than the cost of the amenity to the property.

The other thing is that while the AC is very quiet and cools the room, it's pretty slow to get going, and when you leave the room for even a minute it shuts off. The result of this is that when you go out for dinner or a concert and come back, your room is quite warm. And the comforter on the bed is appropriate for winter time in New York, so you're sweating your ... off in bed. No blankets or cooler options are available. We didn't sleep the first night.

All in all, it's a mixed bag here. It's a super unique property from a design perspective, and during the day it's a comfortable place to hang by the pool or in the restaurant. But if you're only here to sleep, I think it's worth keeping the above in mind.
