My question is who is looking at this and when.
This is how I imagine it to work.
- When my bag fails to make it onto the flight for whatever reason, it makes sense for them to just put it on the next flight to the same destination. They don't know where my hotel is going to be.
- I inform baggage claim about where my final destination is and he creates a ticket putting a note to put it on the GRB flight.
- Once the ticket is created, when is the next time someone would look at this ticket? Is there someone at the airport that is just constantly reviewing all tickets and reading the notes inside? Seems unlikely. Maybe someone is getting notified of all NEW tickets, that might be more likely. That was my question
- So I assume the next time the ticket is looked at is when the bag is left on the belt and someone from the baggage office is forced to lookup what's going on with the bag. At that point it is obviously too late.
Maybe the GRB flight couldn't fit my bag. And nothing reflected in the status. That's always a possibility.
Anyways, the bag made it at 4:55pm. There is a pickup time at noon, 5pm and 10pm. I called the line shortly after that arrival and asked them to call the baggage desk but there was no answer ofcourse. The person on the line told it would be on the 10pm and I'd be getting it late at night. It did not get picked up til noon the next day (after I called again and someone finally picked up at the baggage desk). I made sure to time my call shortly after an arrival. I eventually asked them to remove the GRB note from my ticket, because everytime I called in, they thought that I wanted the bag delivered to GRB. The delivery company delayed my delivery because I was so far and I didn't receive it til 8pm. I did quickly get approved for inteirm expenses and also got a voucher.
I wonder why my bag didn't make the flight in the first place. I had a 90min connection. The plane was swapped from the typical CRJ to an E75. Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened on this route. In the past there was a flight about an hour later so I just waited.
