I usually burn my avios to fly short haul within Europe and have noticed historically that seats in Y often become available the day before the flight (not always but sometimes if there is enough availability). Is anyone aware if seats can be released on the day of the flight or is it highly unlikely if they are not made available the day before the flight?

I was hoping to book a last minute trip to (flying tomorrow) but alas no seats are available for where I want to fly to. I also check what the fares are like which gives me an indication on availability and how likely reward seats are likely to be released. Perhaps BA are less willing to release non revenue seats during peak holiday season given that they can probably sell more seats last minute at higher fares compared with other times in the year?
