It's definitely not a commercial decision. Commerially LH should increase the frequency of their flights to TLV. Lots of people want to leave, all flights are fully booked, yields are high. Why should LH then cancel their flights due to commercial reasons?
The reason to cancel are safety and security related. LH is losing money not flying.
This is one of those things where LHG are going to be on the losing side whatever they do. Repatriation flights should have been provided by LHG to get people out ASAP. Even if other airlines are still flying, for the safety of everyone involved flights should be suspended by all airlines. MH & PS know all too well what can happen during a war or tensions (certainly tensions in the case of PS). I think after MH & PS, things have changed significantly when it comes to flights over or in conflict zones.
