Be sarcastic any way you want, but in my experience most hotels (even high-end ones) don't really care or pay attention enough to notice unless you're bringing a crowd. Maybe you and you and your family/friends attract inordinate attention in public, who knows.
In any case it's up to you; at the end of the day it's your trip. If you want to donate extra money from your own wallet to the hotel, be my guest.
