We had a 6:16 pm flight to DCA but I saw that there was an earlier flight that we might be able to make so we hustled to the gate to be put on standby. The gate attendant told us that she could not do anything since there was a new policy. She stated that we needed to do this through the app. She did get a manager who ended up putting us on standby but he did not clarify that the policy did not apply to Executive Platinum status passengers. I tried to find where I could do this on the app but was unable to do so. We both got on the flight. I do not understand the purpose of this policy.
Reports are that in practice many (most?) GAs are not aware that an exception is to be made for EXP and PP.
