That was my first thought when I saw the original post, but I wanted to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, and see if he would offer a reasonable explanation for making a 12 y.o. use a safety seat. The unsupported but repeated claims that it would be safer and that his wife really wanted to use it just don't make sense.
