Re: A380 - personally I wouldn't pay more to choose an upper deck seat (I'm not sure that's what you meant in your OP though, just you specifically mentioned an upper deck seat). Other than a short climb up some stairs, it is indistinguishable from lower deck so not worth any premium for me whatsoever.
