I had a productive call. I called the back of my Citi Strata Premier $95 AF card, I selected the option to cancel and I was tranferred to a nice and friendly rep.
Told her I'd like to cancel unless there are some options to offset the fees. She got my point without beating around the bush.
Option 1: Spend $1k per month for 3 months and get $100 statement credit
Option 2: Spend $3k over the next six months and get 10k points
I chose option 2 as there will be less tracking involved. I use this card for groceries (3x), as I don't have any better grocery card. I can finish it in six months without much tracking
Then I asked for offers on
1. Citi Thank you Preferred no fee: offered 2x bonus points upto 35k total in next six months. No other offer. Took it as it's basically 3x everyhwhere.
2. Citi Thank you Preferred : same offer as above. Took it.
3. Citi Rewards+: no offer. Kept it open for the annual 10k rebate
4. AT&T Access no fee card: No offer. No upgrade option to the $95 card with more rewards. Product changed to Custom Cash
5. Another AT&T no fee. No offer. No upgrade option to the $95 card with more rewards. Product changed to Custom Cash
6. Dividend card. 2% bonus cash back for the next six months on $15k spend. Gas stations are not that useful for me as my gas spend is < $200 a month. Hopefully Q4 will be useful. Or maybe Q1 2025.
I think the combo of Premier, Custom Cash, Double Cash, 3x everywhere with the retention on no fee TYP will work out great.
I did not ask for an offer on my 3x Double Cash cards, as I thought I will use the TYP cards as the unbonused category cards. I should have asked about the Double cash as well, because of this data point. Certainly 4x is better than 3x.
