people will go for drinks on the bar's upper terrace (actually Ground Floor)
Azurite BLUE
and will later move to the restaurant's lower terrace. (Actually on B1)
Tyrian Purple / Cadmium ORANGE / Verdigris GREEN
as everyone wants to flock to the riverside to see and be seen in flagranté delicto.

Directly at the restaurant's terrace, the riverside tables tend to cater to
- 4 persons and < 4
- amongst those that maroon sideways by boat to chuck an oyster and bubbly before continuing
- sunset dinners & smoochers

The restaurant also has outdoors seating + tables next the river bend
- mostly for larger parties > 4 persons
- those wishing to discretely light up
- those who are incognito : conspicious suspicious
Cadmium ORANGE

The restaurant also has outdoor intimate tables next to the river for 2 ,
those are aside the breakfast buffet area
Verdigris GREEN

There is extra outdoor seating area around the river/canal bend but that is dedicated to the hall of mirrors "spiegel zaal" for corporate / festive events
Tartazine YELLOW

In-house guests can always be accomodated but to make sure you get that coveted prime riverside table, my suggestion:
- when reserving a room,
email the hotel your stay requests and other desires, ask if they can reserve you an outdoors table at the restaurant

Both methods should work...
to increase the % chance
- dine early at 18.00 .... first dibs ! you can sit as long as you want though .....
- dine after 20.00 .... pre-theater dinners will have already left to catch the show of 20.30 at Carré https://carre.nl/en
- but try to dine before 20.30 .... usually the lot doing pre-dinner drinks at the upper terrace moves down to continue grazing at the restaurant

Some protips:
- blankets are available if it gets a bit drafty around the ankles
- the ash tray is discretely available
- take sunglasses, as the sun set in the later evening, the glare reflects on the water causing blindness, do not fall in the river
- be aware all tourist river boats pass the hotel : prepare to wave, be photograped and even feel like a celebrity,
- as the terrace is slight higher than the river level and most boats are lower... esp for ladies: it's the time to wear panties instead of enjoying the liberating breeze downunder
- spend is EQP earning
- some seem to worry about dresscode, don't worry, it is welcoming to everyone as long as you can pay the bill
there are persons showing cleavage befitting the abyss stairway, some clutching their pearls, others in polo & pants, some wearing the latest in lunar fashions, LVMH too but also "don't mess with Texas" t-shirts

I see from your handle that you are diamond AMB,
if you booked Jr. Suite river view, you should be upgraded to 1 bedroom suite river view.
That's cat+1, according to the T&C and was in the past the max in highest upgrade to be attained.

AMB upgrade exclusion list in T&C has no reference to excluding the Royal & Presidential suite,

(that list is hopelessly outdated though, it still lists IC DUS, IC Carlton Cannes and list IC AMS even having sea view suites ... even IC Lyon's suite types are not propely reflected *renamed)

last time i hopped by, the harem was still parked in either the royal or presidential suite
(as connecting multiple bedrooms to suit the ladies + entourage)
as womanly wiles can change unexpectedly and
(as they love to move about the building according to their moods...)
the specialty suites inventory online might not match the harem's last minute decisions....
NB: Qatari dignitaries have a preference for the champagne suite so that's why that one is always perpetual excluded of getting upgraded into.

as such occupancy will be 3 ?

email the hotel in advance to mention specific that your son is a teen and will be needing his own bed.
IC AMS can provide an extra bed for your teen.....
- Jr. Suite riverview on all levels can easily accomodate the extra bed plus you'll still have space
- 1 bedroom suite river view level 2/3/4 will require the extra bed to be placed in the living and will cause all furniture to be moved, which can make it a bit cramped....
- the duplex penthouse river view suite (see above post of mine) will easily fit an extra bed on the lower floor to keep the teen happy and guard your and Mrs. K her privacy upstairs, it has also 2 toilets... however the hotel is reluctant to upgrade into those (as cat+2 from your jr suite booking, might be swayed if you are willing to go for an upsell, won't be cheap though....

As i usually book an extra room for my kids, i have limited experience with a 3rd person occupancy

best is to email the hotel about above possibilities,
get clarification about the 3rd person for occuapancy
and the expected upgrade + upsell levels
So you can prepare and be aware ....

Booking the award room for "King Premium City " room will offer the option to connect via connecting door with the 1 bedroom suite river view on level 4 only.
Most spacious of them all as it turns into a 2 bedroom suite, you'll need to shout to communicate from 1 end to the other end ......
however some quote that the attic makes them feel like servants. I have no problem with it as my own house is similair, yet here i am still trading in diamonds ....
This combo is twice located on the complete width of the building on the end edge of each wing on level 4.

Booking the award room for "King Premium City " room, yet you still wish to keep the 1 bedroom suite riverview on levels 2/3 because of the bigger windows and prominence of riverview,
mentally prepare that the hotel will be strict to charge you to switch "King Premium City " to "King Premium River view" at €XXXcost (high season)
so that you can have connecting door between both King Premium River view with 1 bedroom suite River view with full front river views.
This combo is thrice on each corner of each wing on level 2/3 facing the river.
