They say never write a post or an e-mail when you are angry, but here we are, and what do they know anyway?
I want to be careful and present this as a
reminder to everyone by way of a situation I just got caught up in.
I'm not casting aspersions or slandering anyone...this is just the tale of what happened to me.
I booked a staycation at the London Sheraton Park Lane using a Chase Free Night Certificate (FNC).
While packing on the day of check-in, I pulled my back rather badly and could not go and the hotel stay became a low priority for me.
Anyone with a slipped disc...you know.
So, I didn't check-in, show up, call them, or do anything other than tend to my injury as best I could.
A day later, I received a Folio from the hotel informing me that I was being charged the full rack rate for the night ($685) for reasons that still boggled my mind.
I e-mailed the hotel directly and explained and I point out that the room has already been paid for (FNC), and there is even a payment solution (the FNC), but my card on file has been charged.
They want my cash.
I sense this is a losing battle, and I appreciate I'm not blameless (it's my back, after all), but the lack of 'hospitality' and the reliance on an obviously inappropriate T&C for the situation just doesn't sit well with me.
- A payment solution is already in place (FNC).
- In my mind, I've booked and paid for the room already (FNC)
- Whether or not I use the room is no concern of Marriott.
So, BE WARNED. FREE can soon turn into an OVERPRICED HOTEL CHARGE.
PS: I'm going to pursue the insurance on the Chase Marriott card, but I sense this will also be a waste of my time.
I just hate the idea that this hotel will get away with this. It's not worthy of Sheraton, Marriott or 'Hospitality'
