I'm new to booking with TG (first time) so would appreciate any insight.

If it's relevant I'm using google chrome - have tried via google flights and the actual TG website too but it returns the same result.

Two big festivals on 15-16 Nov. Loi Krathong and Yi Peng lantern. Have a look at Nok Air or Thai Air Asia for cheaper fares.

There have been reports of TG’s booking engine (weirdly) only offering more expensive fare classes. Have a look at booking through an OTA such as Expedia.
