You can use SamTrans bus 292 for 4P SFO. If you do, make sure to get the right direction - downtown SF to the hotel, and Hillsdale to the airport.
Not sure about taxi, but Lyft/Uber rides do go to area hotels; they are pricey (relative to my standards), however. I think my most recent use was $35 + tips to Aloft from SFO in the middle of the night at 2am on a massively delayed arrival (and had a 6am onward flight).
On the few occasions I've arrived and my hotel shuttle (where I've left the car) is not operating due to the hour, I've taken taxis (after pricing the Ubers/Lyfts). The taxi drivers aren't too miffed because they get line priority after "short airport rides" and it has been less $ than a rideshare, and much more convenient to get to, at least from domestic arrivals.
