For those who live outside of DC and the immediately nearby area, IAD is a lot more convenient than trying to get to DCA (which has very limited parking and DEN is about as far as you can go non-stop). I know some of your comments were tongue-in-cheek, but there's a lot of upside to IAD. And personally, when sometimes the train takes longer to get me somewhere than driving would and costs nearly as much as a plane ticket, I'll fly and take the miles!

It's not a great airport, but it is the only one that flies IAD-ROA nonstop... and for $100, I'd make that 40 minute flight instead of driving 3 1/2 hours and using $60+ in gas.
