BA has very few ( if any) non stop flights from Edinburgh to Europe ( you will be changing via London) You can use BA avios for reward flights to europe but you will need availability for EDI-LHR then LHR europe ( and availability can be limited)
( you can transfer avios to Aer lingus and iberia but reward availability will be limited ( i think they come out of the same bucket) Aer lingus flights will go via Dublin and iberia flights will go via MAD)

Thanks for your quick response. I often fly to London with work so I use BA Avios for reward flights from LHR to Europe. It works as i already have a reason to be that location and don’t need to cover my cost from EDI -> LHR return. However, it means I often have to take up to 4 flights within 2-3 days when visiting Europe and can sometimes missing connecting flights due to delays. I would love to be able to fly direct from EDI to Europe if possible using avios but as you pointed out that may not be possible as it is not a main hub for any major airline
