A380 medical diversions over Africa - where would they go?

A family member was taken rather ill last week on the way from JNB. Handled superbly by the crew, 2 off duty doctors and the Medilink service and they are now home and much better.

There was some talk of diverting at one point but the flight deck advised it was basically back to JNB or onwards to BCN. I know the A380 has significant limitations on the airfields it can use, but is that really the case for a medical emergency? For a major technical problem I know it's all about getting it down.
