Parents supping champers up front, kids glued to phones down back. Strategy required

We're a family of 2 adults and 2 teenage kids (13/15yrs). We mostly travel around together on short leisure breaks and a couple of big trips per year. Connecting in from Manchester.

Myself and MrsGatch have a plan to get to Gold before April. We've made it a bit of a game (yes, sad I know), however the kids won't be on all of the trips and will only make Silver. Not really bothered about the TPs for them, and they are not bothered about sitting in Y (for shorthaul trips anyway!). On that basis I want to reduce the cost for us to get to Gold by booking the kids strategically in Y on a few of the trips.

We're looking at mostly shorthaul J trips making use of a few under the double TP promo and some SH+ for us to get to Gold.

Any sensible options for travelling with two teenagers who are happy to sit in Y?

- Does a travelling group on one PNR need to be in the same booking class?
- Could I do two bookings, one J (2 adults), one Y (2 kids)? Hassle as technically unaccompanied minors?
- Could I do two bookings, one J (1 adult, 1 kid), one Y (1 adult, 1 kid) and the adults just sit up front together? Would the crew allow that, or care?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
