Rio Las Vegas ran a 3,000 points per night rate and it was offered at $30-$40 per night. This was only bookable for 24 hours back in March. Some people loaded up and booked 10 nights at this rate netting 30k points just in bonus alone.
Of course this was a very rare exception, but it shows that it does happen.
I have two upcoming stays, one where double points was the exact same cost as the member rate (don't ask me why they would do this, maybe numbers are down and they are trying to juice the numbers), and another one where the "3000 extra points/night" rate was $10/night more than the member rate. I forget if the $10 included incremental taxes but either way it seemed like a no-brainer to buy 3k points for $10(++).
