I’ve never heard of any of this before, which makes me think airlines have recently figured out that they can just close lavatories instead of fixing them and everyone gets paid the same.
It depends on the flight length. Would you prefer that AA delays or cancels a flight from HOU-DFW (40 minutes total) if the lav is INOP? Most people would prefer to take the flight and if anyone cannot or chooses not to, I'm sure AA will rebook them on a later flight.
