As a general comment, Double Points (even sometimes Triple Points) rates and almost all other higher priced rates (2000/night, etc.), similar to “Buy More RDM” when purchasing an airline ticket, (and most extended warranties particularly refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and cars

) are very rarely “worth it”. Often times the price per point is higher than the hotel or airline offers points or miles for purchase on their standalone “buy point (or miles)” webpage.
Always bear in mind, the #1 goal of every business is to separate as much of
your money from
your wallet as possible.
Just like the film “
The Martian”, you gotta “do the math”. (Love the response to his “questions?” at the end of the clip and the film, among my favorite 1 second movie scenes. Suggest sound on for clip below.)

One example of the rare situation was posted earlier this year -
Rio Las Vegas ran a 3,000 points per night rate and it was offered at $30-$40 per night. This was only bookable for 24 hours back in March. Some people loaded up and booked 10 nights at this rate netting 30k points just in bonus alone.
Of course this was a very rare exception, but it shows that it does happen.
