I've found that if you provide a reason for your schedule request that makes sense to the agent and the agent is reasonably competent, they'll do such things. You may need to indicate that you understand you are voluntarily taking on the expense of a hotel since there are same day connections.
Also, I’m curious will AA eventually fix this themselves (albeit to flights I don’t like) or do they leave impossible connections and assume the passenger will call to fix. And if I want to change to another airport within the 300 mile rule can I do that, and is the rule 300 road miles, or great circle miles. Thanks for any help.
I have little faith in AA's IT finding the error itself. Probably wouldn't get caught until check-in.
GC miles, but again, the reason would need to make sense to the agent (e.g. the schedule matches original to the T)
