I have not done the rental car bus for a long time but some of my concerns:
1 - don't LAX Rental Car shuttles drop off at the upper level and pick up at the lower level?
2 - the driver might ask you for your name to confirm the reservation when you get on
3 - if there is no one at T7, it won't stop and you really can't have a logical story to explain why you did it and want to get off at T7
4 - it will slow down other passengers on the bus - OP has 4 big bags and a child
2- Never in my experience, people with status may let the drive know they are on so it gets entered into the system
3- Real risk in my experience is that the shuttle is full and the driver just keeps going, skipping UA entirely (I used to do this weekly and drove me nuts for Parking Spot and Avis)
I almost suggested this tactic too, but wasn't sure if people would view it as cheating or inappropriate. Given there is an actual LAX bus that has tracking it seems like it would work just as well. (There are some stops where this tactic can really help... Hilton and Parking Spot are next door to each other and getting on whichever one comes first is not smiled at but they seemed to tolerate it back in the day.) I don't know, I guess desperate times desperate measures -- I'd decide based on what's happening on the ground that day but agree totally to tip well
