As Xiaotung pointed out, your best bet is VA or AC. I have redeemed AC miles (100k miles) for SQ J class award this summer from MEL to AMM via SIN & IST. But you have to be patient and keep trying as the AC portal is hit an miss and is known to crash at the very last step and you have to start all over again. Was originally trying to book an award seat on EY which after several attempts when tyring to pay using miles it would give an error. Decided to give the SQ flight option a go and it worked fine.
