There are at least three routes to get from DL baggage claim to T7, they all have pluses or minuses. I personally would not want to negotiate the T4, T5, and T6 departure lobbies with four check-in bags and a child. Those areas are often filled with pax and their luggage.

Referring to the cross-airport route, agree. The horseshoe, on the other hand, whether you take the indoor or outdoor route, can be absolutely packed with departing passengers and their luggage.
