Yes I have cancelled many Delta domestic flights and in essence the cancellation fee on a one-way ticket is the $5.60 in taxes as they do not collect anything else upon cancellation. VS was great for booking DL flights but with the recent devaluation last year less so (except for the shortest haul Y). Sadly BA did the same to AA (and AS awards) but at least there AA is competitive in pricing its awards unlike Delta.
I only book Delta reward flights through Virgin because I have so many points, and spending $11 and 30,000 points one way for me and my wife feels a lot nicer than $400! Also wanting to use up points before starting a family and more devaluations
