I would absolutely argue this point on a basis of a precedent having been established per unit of time wasted. 2500 miles per 20 minutes? Extrapolate that into a solid case to increase compensation offers, especially if the delay is significant enough to really cause disruption to the rest of your travel plans.
8hrs = 60k miles
24hrs = 180,000 miles
Etc.
im all for this as long as you pay a US261 insurance charge on each ticket you want the right to claim, and I can opt out of it.
