My wife and I just completed a 4-night stay at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.
In a similar situation to what I posted on a recent review of the Fairmont Empress, we made good use of SNUs, and managed to stack them with a promo code, as there was a time last year when the website was actually allowing that! We booked a Fairmont Gold Suite King for the price of a Fairmont Gold King Room, which represents about a 63% discount off BAR and a 50% discount off of advance booking with the same CAA discount, from the rates that were available at the time. I consider this to be great SNU value. Ended up getting the Gold Suite for $759/night before taxes, on a AAA-CAA Hot Deal Rate, combined with a SNU (booked a bit under a year in advance). For Vancouver in July, is a pretty sweet rate, considering that same suite if you wanted to book in now for next month, is on offer at $2,400. If you're coming to Vancouver, and have some SNUs to use up, you could do far worse than trying to use them here.
No further upgrade was given on check-in, nor was I expecting any.
We arrived in Vancouver via chartered plane with Harbour Air, which meant we arrived at the harbour airport across the street. It took about 5 minutes to walk up the dock from our plane, up the elevator, and across the plaza and street to the hotel entrance. This is a very convenient location.
On arrival, the bellman gave us a key card to allow elevator access to the 20th floor, which is where the Gold lounge and reception is located. The hotel has about 44 floors, and the hotel represents the bottom 22 floors while the upper 22 floors consist of private residences.
We were given a suite 2223, on the 22nd floor, or the top floor of the hotel portion of the building.
I took a video walkthrough of the suite, and linked it below.
The suite consisted of a main salon, a bedroom, and 2 full bathrooms. There was also a private balcony overlooking the harbour, with dining table.
Below are the views from the balcony. Those docks you see from the balcony, is the harbour air terminal we arrived at and walked over from.
The main salon had a comfortable seating area, with access to the balcony.
After we had initially checked in, we went to the lounge for some refreshments, and came back to find a welcome amenity on the coffee table. I'm not a drinker, but my wife enjoyed it!
The bedroom was in the corner of the building, so it had windows on two sides. I felt that the air conditioning wasn't as powerful as was needed, particularly in the afternoon with sun coming through the windows.
There are a lot of automations in this suite. All of the window treatments are controlled by computer, along with the lighting.
There are switches like this all around the suite, and on the nightstands.
In addition, everything can be controlled from a tablet at the bedside.
An area they could have improved on, was the lack of electrical outlet on one side of the bed. There were smart switches everywhere, but no place to plug anything in on the window side. Fortunately, I always travel with a small extension cord, but especially in a modern hotel, there's no excuse for not having outlets everywhere.
There are two bathrooms in the suite. The main bathroom has a large vanity with double sink, along with a tub in addition to the glass shower. The second bathroom, off the living room, had a very large shower.
And in keeping with the automation and computer controls in the suite, there was even a television built into the bathroom mirror.
One thing that I didn't really like about this property, is how closed off it felt in the hallways. It didn't feel like a grand hotel, pushing most of the space to the suites and rooms (understandably) and minimizing hallway spaces. But, it felt a bit claustrophobic. Even the Gold Lounge reception felt more like a coat check closet than a concierge desk! Even the ceiling heights felt low. Here are images of the 22nd floor hallways.
The Gold Lounge was not large, but it was comfortable, well-designed, and had great service. We were provided this information sheet on the lounge.
Here are some photos of the lounge seating areas. There was an outdoor balcony, not terribly deep, that ran the full length of the lounge. It included bistro tables all the entire length, with a larger table for four at one end.
The food service area of the lounge was much smaller than I was used to. However, they made up for that by offering table service at breakfast. They had a chef in the lounge, and you could order many items from a menu, and the staff would bring it to your table. There was still a small section for self-service items.
Food quality was very good. There were different versions of sushi every night, which I particularly liked. They also had some really nice cakes and other desserts.
The hotel is right near the water, by Canada Place, the cruise terminal and the harbour airport. It is a very great location. Here are some images of the hotel from the street.
The hotel has a little parkette next to their driveway, where they also operate cafe. In the evening, it was fun to see it turned into an outdoor movie theatre!
Here is the main entrance, right across from the above parkette images.
A really great service offered here, are bicycle and e-bike rentals. For guests staying in Suites, or guests that are Platinum or Diamond members, there are 2 hours of free rentals of either bike type included, for all guests in the room. We ended up renting bikes for about 4 hours one day, and they never charged us for the incremental 2 hours we had them out.
While we didn't use it, the hotel has a very nice rooftop outdoor pool. By rooftop, I mean on the 6th floor, which is the top of the wider hotel base, before a narrower tower extends the remaining 44 floors.
There are some rooms with balconies overlooking the pool, and some with patio doors right onto the pool deck.
The hotel gym was very well appointed.
Our drink vouchers were included in our welcome package, and I believe they could be used for anything up to $50.
The hotel has many restaurants and lounge. The crowd downstairs was fairly young, and included many locals out for a night, and not just hotel guests.
On checkout, my wife and I were each presented with some nice water bottles to take home, branded with the hotel logo, which was a nice parting gift.
Overall, we had a great stay. The service was excellent. The modern design is not really to my taste, but in the style that it is, it is very well done. I still prefer the grand and historic properties, over a modern glass tower! The location is excellent, and the SNU value was good. I would happily stay here again.
