quick review while I'm here - Just done a second round trip to Europe from NZ with family (in Y) on China Southern. I'd fly them again - great aircraft, on time, service OK. Hotel included in layover - an amazing service - not quite to the old Korean service levels, but great. Online engine and post booking is terrible if you are used to other major carriers..
CZ being a former member of Skyteam, some Skyteam airlines still allow accrual and benefits on CZ. For how much longer, we don't know.

For 1x a year anywhere, it's not worth too much effort for a frequent flyer programme on any airline- because that's not a "frequent flyer".
