I'd noticed the cash rate dropped (well) below 2cpm; where I probably went wrong was in booking a 2nd room at the cash rate thinking I could cancel the points booking, whereupon I discovered the non-refundability. I did call in to the concierge line to confirm the situation, but they only offered cancellation of the cash booking. I probably should have pursued harder whether, instead of booking a 2nd room and canceling the 1st, I could just do it as (effectively) a rate change on the original booking.
