I'm a bit late (as always, lol) with posting reports on my FT about my stay. But I assume not much has changed.
I really don't know where to begin with this hotel. It is has got to be by
far the best Hyatt Centric globally both from a hard and soft product perspective. Everything from the room, to the service, to the breakfast was all excellent.
Booking: I paid $120 a night, and kept checking from when I booked up until the day of to reprice my stay. I think it dropped ~$10 during that time for my 2 night stay.
I have a wheat allergy, and due to how rare it is to have this (celiac disease) in China, I reached out to the hotel to see if they could assist. They were wonderful with this. More on that later.
On the day of check in, I was upgraded to a 2 twin park view deluxe room. I was staying with a relative, and there are no suites with 2 beds that I'm aware of, hence the deluxe room upgrade.
We arrived very late, but the kind staff escorted us from the main entrance by the street up to the front desk, where we were promptly checked in and shown to the elevator.
The location of this hotel is near the
中山公園 (Zhongshan Park) metro station, which has Lines 2, 3, and 4 of the Shanghai Metro. It makes it possible to take Line 2 all the way from PVG, which is a very big plus. It is also near the lovely Zhongshan Park and is not too far from other well known sights.
Our room was located on the 30th floor (out of 32, I think) and the view of Zhongshan Park was stunning. During my stay in Mid-June, the hotel had just opened about 2 months ago so it was all in great shape. It also seemed like no expense was spared for the design of the hotel.
The gym was also quite nice and located on the 2nd floor. However, the pool was still closed and the attendant there told me it would open starting in July.
Breakfast: This was the highlight of my stay for sure. All of the food and beverage staff basically knew who I was (I was the only white person there, so that probably made it easier). But regardless, it was incredible. Brooke was the main person we interacted with, and he was great in explaining what was gluten free and what was not. Him and his staff gave me gluten free bread the first day and some gluten free muffins the second day. The F&B manager, Benjamin Gu, also introduced himself to me which was a super nice touch as well.
Asian Hyatts are truly phenomenal compared to American ones, and I can't wait to return. Having said that, I do need the Caption brand explorer (the hotel was only $60 per night), but I think I would continue to return to the Centric.
