I assume this was at a smaller outstation type of airport like a Santa Rosa, Eugene, Reno? If you arrived 10 minutes before Check in closes that's incredibly close especially with checked bags. You're not entitled to any compensation, not that you'd get any in the US but you could've checked in on the mobile app or at a kiosk you also could've just simply arrived earlier.

if anyone attempts to check in before cutoff, they should be catered (10 minutes is plenty of time for checking in at the counter).
