I arrived at the airport about 10 minutes before check-in was scheduled for closing for my AS flight with my party of 4. We had one checkin bag and 3 carryons. We were waiting in line at the check-in counter. After a few minutes they announced that they ran out of paper for the bag tags and would no longer be checking in luggage. I had no choice but to stay back with the check-in bag while the rest of my party boarded the flight with carryons. I was rebooked on a flight 24 hours later.
Are US airlines required to compensate me for any expenses incurred as a result? I didn't get a hotel as I live in the city but what about meals and transportation?
I assume this was at a smaller outstation type of airport like a Santa Rosa, Eugene, Reno? If you arrived 10 minutes before Check in closes that's incredibly close especially with checked bags. You're not entitled to any compensation, not that you'd get any in the US but you could've checked in on the mobile app or at a kiosk you also could've just simply arrived earlier.
