Trip Report

Wonderful property and staff, cannot emphasize it enough. One of the stars in IHG, easily my favorite Kimpton.

Booking: points & fourth night free, which gave a decent redemption around $0.065 / point; ammenity fee is still charged; the secret password gives you half off one night of this fee (so a credit of $35)

* Flights: don't normally call this out, but the only affordable way to get to RTB is with points; UA frequently makes saver space available (which can be booked with Aeroplan), AA offers good redemption through its program

* Rooms: the hotel doesn't make it clear, but only some room types are in the main hotel, others are in separate (but still within ~ 3 min walk) bungalows and villas; I'd recommend emailing the hotel to confirm what room type you want as it's not particularly obvious online; we were upgraded to a Premium Ocean View, and at a minimum I'd advise getting a room facing the ocean; rooms are very comfortable and well-designed

Property: obviously West Bay is the major draw, but I can't emphasize enough how nice the overall architecture is; in particular, there is a beautiful walking path atop the wall near the villas; we ended up hardly leaving the Kimpton over our 4-night stay

Coral Reef: literally 30 ft from the shore and very active / alove during our stay, you can comfortably swim out several hundred feet just with snorkel gear

* Scuba: we had never dived before and only planned to snorkel... until we tried out a complimentary morning scuba in the pool (offered Monday / Thursday), leading us to book a dive with the on-property team (West Bay Divers); would consider doing scuba a must-do as snorkeling can show you a lot but far from everything; we were fortunate to see a reef shark, several sea turtles, stingray, etc.

Facilities: excellent gym, nice game room + billiard table in the cafe / bar, nice outdoor pool and jacuzzi (stays open until 9pm, not dusk like a bunch of other places I've stayed)

Spa: would advise booking a spa treatment as the entire area is gorgeous and only accessible with a treatment; if traveling with a partner, HIGHLY recommend booking a couples treatment because these use very unique outdoor bungalow suites

Food: came in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised; good semi-rotating breakfast selection; great coffee at the cafe (Geisha is available); number of excellent dishes at Sea Cat (e.g., tuna tartare) and Alera (e.g., lamb chops); spoke with management and it seems some prior negative reviews were heavily acted on concerning F&B

Service / Issue Handling: overall exception service across a staff comprising an experienced IHG-based team and locals; we did encounter a number of problems during the stay, but all were fully resolved within 15 min; the resort manager is former InterContinental
