Personally I would prefer a non-stop flight than transferring through Dublin. I dont know if there are many people who would find Dublin airport a superior experience to T5. Regardless of closing LHR or LGW, you are going to add hours to your journey and that time is probably taken off your holiday. As much as I try to avoid Stansted, I would still pick a direct flight from there over an LCY departure with a connection.
