I question the market research behind the claim that 80% of customers prefer assigned seating. Are these people who would fly once a year, or people who already fly once a week? I can see how being part of the former can be stressful, but as an A-Lister I enjoy not having to worry about finding 3 open seats for my family and overhead bin space. Or when I'm traveling solo and need to make a last minute change I know I won't be stuck in the middle in the back row. I understand it's a delicate balance for a business to both keep current loyal customers happy and attract new ones.
On to legroom, I'd much rather pay extra for a wider seat than a few inches of legroom. With ever-expanding waistlines, I've had many more uncomfortable flights due to wide bodied people encroaching on my lateral space than anything to do with legroom.
I also want to know what the point of A-List is now. Maybe we'll get the extra legroom seats for free, or still get to board early so we'll have first access to bin space.
