It's good that DL has finally announced they will reimburse for self booked alternative transportation. But the delay and (intentional?) vagueness of this decision is going to cause a lot of confusion and frustration.
Presumably they will either pay for alternative transportation OR refund the original ticket, but not both. They need to make that clear. Also, I'm sure some travelers who already submitted requests for refunds will now want to be reimbursed for alternative transportation instead. Can they, and if so how? The reimbursement request form does not allow for comments to be attached, which means lots of people calling in and needlessly tying up the phone agents
Edit: After reading the waiver, it's clear that anyone that is requesting reimbursement for alternative transportation must ALSO request a refund of their original DL flight if they want to be made whole.
