deliberately unspecified dimensions, it just needs to fit under the seat (their fare and holiday package structure tends to avoid problems).
Now Ryanair and Jet2 are Boeing 737s with the others mainly Airbus 320s, but the seats are in essence the same and there shouldn't be a variance given all the verbiage by various airlines justifying different baggage policies. So we can assume that actually easyJet's dimensions are OK. I have a bag which is that size and it does indeed go under the seat in front. But it does suggest that maybe BA could increase the personal item size up to easyJet size in order to encourage people to bring smaller bags?
I really wish that BA would increase the size of the personal bag to easyJet dimensions which fits under the seat and make this one bag the free allowance. Like easyJet they could charge extra for a second larger cabin bag, and maybe allow this free with Gold/Silver/Bronze.
I suspect enough people would decide to bring an under seat bag only to make locker space no longer an issue on most short haul flights.
It would allow the boarding groups to simplified to perhaps:-
Group 1 - Gold, Club Europe
Group 2 - Silver, possibly Bronze here or with Group 3
Group 3 - Customers who have paid for a second (larger) cabin bag for the overhead locker
Group 4 - Customers who only have an under seat baggage allowance
This would mean those boarding in the last group do not need to find locker space as they have a bag which will go under the seat.
