Perhaps they can institute miles per hour of delay which then while still not anything that fixes the problem, at least compensates on a graduated scale. The traveller who is delayed 4 hours gets 40,000 miles, and the traveller who has to stay overnight, gets a flat 100,000 or something. Definitely the 10k offer seems good they did it so promptly (I assume they had to give this out to a LOT of people) but not good that it was so miniscule.
I think 27,000 - 30,000 miles. Which is good enough for a round trip flight in most cases.
